Wind changes the budget
Patio covers. A cover in the San Gorgonio Pass needs engineering for wind uplift, and installers may suggest deeper footings, extra posts, or a closed roof instead of lattice on the windward side. Expect quotes toward the upper part of the published ranges and ask what wind load each one is engineered for.
Turf. Secure edges and close fastening matter more in wind. Heavier infill, which stays put better, can add to the material cost.
Planting. A windbreak of shrubs or small trees along the windward wall is often the first planting worth paying for. Shrubs run $25 to $300 each planted.
A worked example
A 12 by 20 ft solid aluminum cover is about $4,800 to $12,000 at HomeGuide's range, and about $7,200 to $14,400 insulated. A 600 sq ft turf area is about $8,400 to $10,200 at one California installer's 2026 rate for that size.
Permits, water, and HOA rules
Patio covers need a City of Beaumont building permit, and the city says the first plan review can take up to 15 business days. Ask whether quotes include the permit and engineering.
Beaumont is served by the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District. Rebates generally pay to replace living grass, so check with the district before counting on one for a new yard.
California Civil Code section 4735 bars HOAs from prohibiting artificial turf or low water-using plants, though they can still require approval. Our HOA, wind, and drainage guide has more.
Common questions
Does a patio cover cost more in Beaumont because of the wind?
Often. Engineering for wind uplift, deeper footings, or a closed roof can push a quote toward the upper end of the published range. Ask each installer what wind load the cover is designed for.
Can my HOA ban artificial turf?
No. Under California Civil Code section 4735, HOA rules that prohibit artificial turf, or set conditions that effectively prohibit it, are void. The same section protects low water-using plants. Your HOA can still apply landscaping rules that don't amount to a ban, so submit your plan for approval.
How long does a City of Beaumont patio cover permit take?
The city says the first plan review can take up to 15 business days, so build that into your schedule.
How much does artificial turf cost in Beaumont?
One California installer's 2026 pricing runs about $9 to $17 per sq ft installed, depending on size. In the Pass, ask how the installer secures edges and seams.
